How to help volunteers in Montenegro?

Of course, the best way is to adopt an animal. If you take a pet from the street, from a volunteer, or out of a shelter, and give it your love and care, that's amazing. Moreover, this way you save not one but two little souls: your new pet and the one who takes a freed space at the shelter or the volunteer foster care. All these cuties on our website are looking for a caring person or a family!

Help volunteers in Montenegro

But if you are not ready for this type of commitment just yet, there are plenty of other ways to help volunteers and save Montenegrin strays together:

  • Money, money, money….

Rescuing stray animals is very expensive. Treatment, surgeries, vaccinations, transfer to the vet clinic, pet food and cat litter cost a lot, and volunteers simply cannot afford it all at their own expense. Especially if they look after several animals like most CG Stray volunteers do.

    • You can help animal volunteers financially by transferring money to the general CG Stray account. Every week the received funds will be distributed among active fundraisings which were started by animal volunteers in our Telegram chat. All reporting (donations and expenditure) will be published on this page. (General fundraising opens on March 7, 2025)

      Wise:

Irina Efremova, one of our volunteers. Please, make a note 'site' or 'cgstray'.

    • You can help to finance the treatment of any sick animal in this chat topic here: https://t.me/cg_stray/204
    • You can donate any amount to any of the local volunteers on this list.
    • And of course, you can donate to the fantastic Kotor Kitties foundation to help the sterilisation and neutering program here: https://kotorkitties.org/ru/donation-links/
  • Giving a lift

Animal volunteers and the animals they look after are always in need of transportation to/ from the veterinary clinics and foster families. If you have a car and some free time, offer your help n this section of CG Stray animal volunteers chat. (Writing in English is fine!).

  • Vet medications and anti-parasite treatments

As the stray gang is large and demanding, it’s absolutely impossible for animal volunteers to treat them all regularly with anti-parasite medication and dewormers at their own expense. Some animals are sick/hurting and therefore need more than that - a major therapy with specific drugs (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, etc). Some medications are pretty expensive in Montenegro, others not available here at all. You are more than welcome to share if you have spare pet medication, new or open but having a good shelf life: https://t.me/cg_stray/1073.

  • Making photos

If you are a pro or a talented amateur, and you have some time to spare, please help volunteers to create a great photo portfolio for the stray animals they look after. Good photos mean a lot. Not all of us are talented in this area, not all the volunteers have enough time or appropriate camera on their phone. If you can help with photos, you will surely give animals a so much better chance for adoption! Just offer your help here: https://t.me/cg_stray/166.

  • Fostering/providing temporary home

It is very much needed while animal volunteers are looking for a permanent home for them, or if an animal is recovering after sterilization or medical treatment. No matter how long you plan to stay in Montenegro, if you can provide a temporary shelter to a stray kitten/cat/puppy/dog - thank you! It can be a flat, studio, house, garage or terrasse. Often it's not the size of the place that matters (it never does, to be honest) - it's the fact that an animal can be safe from the dangers of the street and spend some time in the caring environment. Please offer your help here: https://t.me/cg_stray/2.

  • Bringing the stray animal you found to a veterinary clinic

In this article here we've explained that the situation with stray animals in Montenegro is rather critical, and cats and dogs on the street outnumber the volunteers by far. There is no Superman or Wonderwoman to call if you've met an animal who is clearly suffering. Don't wait for any help, please. Arrange for bringing the animal to the clinic as soon as possible. Sometimes you only need to make the first move - and others will be glad to join you to ensure a “happy ever after” for a little kitten or a sick dog. Check out the veterinary clinics list , and information on the most recommended vets in Montenegro. If you need extra help with transportation, feel free to ask here. If you need extra help with following up, you can look for temporary home/foster family here. Veterinary advice can be asked for here, any other questions are welcome here

  • Sharing information

Sterilization is the most humane way to control the number of stray animals. Feeling excited to write and post on social media about animals ready for adoption? Offer assistance here https://t.me/cg_stray/166. Please note that you don't necessarily need to be in Montenegro for this kind of help! Posting can be done literally from anywhere!
